What is currently happening in Ukraine is hard to miss—even more so, it’s saddening to witness. From the various pieces of live news coverage to the surmounting number of individuals doing all they can to give and show support, it’s yet another trying time for humanity as we close one chapter and begin another.

I find that many of us forget how privileged and blessed we are to live in a country founded on freedom. For many, freedom is not a privilege. It’s a constant battle in the world that we all must continue to earn. In Ukraine, millions are migrating, and thousands are being killed.

We must do more.

If You’re Looking to Give Support On Ground

Doctors Without Borders: They currently focus on emergency response in Ukraine and surrounding countries accepting refugees.

Red Cross Hero Care Network: The American Red Cross is working to help the emergency communication needs of the U.S. military by keeping members in close contact with their families back home. The American Red Cross has sent trained staff to Europe to support these military members’ needs.

If You’re Looking to Support Migrants and Immigrants Directly

The UN Refugee Agency: This agency is working directly in Ukraine and in neighboring countries (such as Poland) to ensure that the immediate needs of the elderly Ukrainians are met—along with their children and families.

If You’re Looking to Support Children and Family Services Directly

Voices of Children: This organization has provided psychological support to children dealing with war-induced trauma in various forms—including art therapy and counseling. Currently, Voice of Children is helping with the evacuation efforts and providing emergency psychological assistance.

If You’re Looking to Help Animals Directly

The International Fund for Animal Welfare: Sometimes, animals can be forgotten in such situations. The IFAW is sending critical funds for animals, including food, supplies, and veterinary care to local shelters throughout Ukraine.

We may not agree with everyone, but standing up for the preservation of people is vital. It doesn’t matter where you come from or who you are, every life has value, and we should protect it; it’s always the right thing to do.

Warmly,
Bob Powell
