Anaerobic digestion is the process by which bacteria break down organic matter like manure or food waste in the absence of oxygen, and transform that waste into biogas. In our anaerobic digestion projects, waste is collected and loaded into a digester, which creates biogas. The raw biogas is then cleaned, upgraded, and compressed into pipeline quality renewable natural gas (RNG). That RNG is either transported through a pipeline or via trucks to local pipelines, where it is injected and sold. In addition to RNG, other renewable products generated by our dairy manure anaerobic digestion projects include biofertilizer, digested dairy fiber for use as cow bedding or as a peat moss substitute, and reclaimed irrigation water.

Renewable natural gas(RNG) is natural gas produced from organic waste materials food waste and animal and plant-based material. The major sources of RNG are landfills, animal manure, and solid waste extracted during wastewater treatment. The gas is deemed “renewable” because it is created by waste that is continuously produced, and is naturally occurring as part of the decomposition process. Anaerobic digestion captures raw biogas, cleans, upgrades, and compressed it into RNG.

Pyrolysis is the chemical decomposition of compounds caused by high temperatures. It is the plastics renewal process by which Brightmark Energy’s chemical recycling technology breaks down plastics into their core components so that these materials can be transformed into fuels and wax or back into the raw materials used to manufacture new plastics.

No, our plastics-to-fuel recycling technology does not use combustion, as is used in trash incinerators. Our technology uses the process of pyrolysis to break the chemical bonds in plastic in the absence of oxygen (incineration/combustion requires fire/oxygen) so that the raw materials can be recaptured and transformed into other useful products, like fuels and wax or even into new plastic products. It is a circular economy technology with minimal environmental impacts.

“Plastics renewal” is a term coined by BME for describing our business line and technology focusing on chemical recycling, or plastics to fuel technology. We find this term to be more descriptive of the purpose and outcome of our proprietary technology process for transforming plastic into its core elements so that it can be reused. Our process can be used to transform plastic waste into ultra low-sulphur diesel, naphtha, waxes, as well as the raw materials for manufacturing new plastic products. We’re truly “renewing” plastic to allow its further use.

Chemical recycling is any process by which a polymer is chemically reduced to its original monomer form so that it can eventually be processed (re-polymerized) and remade into new plastic materials that go on to be new plastic products. Chemical recycling helps us overcome the limits of traditional recycling.
