VP, Asset Management

Under the leadership of the Chief Operation Officer, the Vice President, Asset Management (“VPAM”) will have P&L responsibility for the company’s rapidly growing portfolio of anaerobic digestion (“AD”) assets across the US producing Renewable Natural Gas (“RNG”) for injection into the US natural gas pipeline infrastructure. In addition, the VPAM will be responsible for coordinating with the Vice President, Operations, and supporting the operations of the company.  The VPAM will be the leader of these businesses and assure healthy relationships with stakeholders are mutually beneficial and decisions are made in the best interest of Brightmark, while also coordinating with O&M/Accounting to produce financial reporting.

The ideal candidate will have specific experience in people leadership, the development of a culture that is focused on people development and delivering for the business, and asset management of energy assets including financial performance, risk and contract management, 3rd Party and Stakeholder Agreements, Revenue, Cost, etc. This will include experience in the operation and maintenance of a portfolio of diverse assets in the renewable energy or conventional power sectors. The successful candidate will also engage in considerable interaction with the origination, development, engineering, and construction groups at Brightmark, hence prior renewable energy project development and execution experience is a plus.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead by personal example and encourage all employees to conduct their activities in accordance with all applicable laws and the Company standards and policies, particularly its EH&S policies
  • Establish and enforce safety and environmental standards for sites while driving a strong culture of operational discipline
  • Develop and maintain a culture that aligns with the company’s mission and vision
  • Lead and support business strategic initiatives that strengthen Brightmark’s internal project execution model and support a high growth portfolio
  • Support in the development and implementation of operational and management strategies and objectives
  • Coordinate business strategy and execution for each project company
  • Advance strategies to improve operational and financial performance and protect the long-term value
  • Conduct operational, regulatory, political, technical, and commercial risk management
  • Lead and support team members, in coordination with FP&A, responsible for the management of P&L, cash positions, ensuring that project budgets are developed to optimize earnings with a focus on revenue, opex, and capital expenditures
  • Management of all project contracts and commitments including the improvement and delivery of Performance, Availability, Reliability, cash flow, return targets, and profitability of the operational assets.
  • Address technology, system, process, and business challenges with a mindset of constant improvement
  • Coordinate with Operations to oversee operations and maintenance of all operating assets including third-party O&M providers
  • Manage smooth transition from project construction to operational fulfillment to ensure the highest level of site performance.
  • Support in the negotiation of service contracts and budgets with third-party suppliers of O&M services for specialized operation and maintenance work on the operational assets
  • Management of emissions (if applicable) and assure regulatory and environmental compliance
  • In conjunction with legal, create and maintain a tracker for all requirements
  • Support in refinancing and/or M&A activities
  • Monitor market and regulatory affairs to determine the actual or potential impact on current and future operational assets
  • Capital projects management, including expansions/reduction of technical risks
  • Support the origination, development, and project execution team on new facility development and construction.
  • Work with existing partners and prospects to build a close, binding relationship, developing a clear understanding of their current and future needs.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to team members

Experience & Education 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Engineering
  • MBA or Equivalent Experience
  • 7+ years of extensive industry/leadership experience required, particularly in the areas of commercial optimization of infrastructure assets and operations, and risk
  • Experience coaching team members to improve their individual and collective impact
  • Previous asset management and development experience required, experience in a similar industry function, preferably in renewables, a plus
  • Broad hands-on technical experience in the development and operation of renewable and conventional energy projects
  • Experience in pro forma financial analysis of energy projects and reporting

Knowledge & Skills

  • Deep experience in the energy sector and understanding of US energy (power and gas) infrastructure, markets, and incentives
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with an ability to manage a significant workload and prioritize for success
  • Highly entrepreneurial with knowledge of financial and business concepts, along with financial analysis strengths
  • Comfort with legal and contractual concepts and the effective application to business optimization
  • Proven negotiating skills at striking win-win deals with counterparties
  • Experience with cross-functional leadership and management. Matrix organization experience is a plus.

  • Knowledge of contract management and project financing, along with management of debt financing and adherence to covenants
