Job Summary

Come join the Brightmark Center of Excellence! We are seeking an I&C Engineer to help integrate our many renewable natural gas (RNG) projects. This position will report to the VP of Engineering and work closely with Asset Managers, Site Operators, Project Managers, Project Engineers, and third-party operators and engineers in support of the company’s mission to “create a world without waste.” You will help Brightmark successfully run dozens of commercial-scale RNG projects across the country.  

The ideal candidate will have experience designing instrumentation and control systems for industrial facilities (ideally related to biogas and/or RNG or other renewable energy production) along with a good knowledge of PLC, HMI, and SCADA programming and instrumentation technology selection, installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting. These will be brought together to help the Brightmark development team create and implement I&C standards; allow the project execution team to efficiently add control systems and integrate the data collection with Brightmark’s back-office data analytics, and assist the operations team with remote operations and on-site troubleshooting.  

The RNG I&C Engineer will serve as a corporate subject matter expert for the Center of Excellence but will work cross-functionally to provide a high level of I&C expertise across the organization. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and develop SCADA systems for control and operation of RNG facilities 
  • Select preferred instrumentation types make, and models 
  • Support commissioning of new RNG facilities including digesters, upgraders, and pipelines 
  • Develop and maintain meter configurations 
  • Integrate multiple facilities under a common control architecture and command center 
  • Configure various SCADA system elements 
  • Provide high levels of operational support and troubleshooting at each active facility, including after-hours support for emergencies and major system events 
  • Maintain programmable logic control (PLC) systems and communication interfaces required to operate RNG facilities 
  • Work within global team environment on process improvements 
  • Manage small teams and technical projects involving contractors 
  • Participate in HAZOPs and design reviews for projects under development 
  • Collect and maintain a log of lessons learned 
  • Assist the team in maintaining an excellent safety record 
  • Travel as needed to Brightmark and/or tech provider facilities for technical evaluation, commissioning, and troubleshooting (25-35% travel anticipated)

  • Fluency in MS Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, and Word 

Experience & Education 

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited university, preferably in Engineering 
  • 3+ years of professional experience with PLC and logic control  
  • 3+ years of professional experience applicable to RNG or similar 
  • Working experience with networking systems including fiber, copper, and wireless 
  • Experience in the development of SCADA HMIs 
  • Experience with SQL databases and reporting systems
