Brightmark is looking for a uniquely qualified individual to help build the company’s capacity in executing carbon reduction projects associated with alternative energy, waste reduction, and farm management. To date, Brightmark had a focus on RFS and LCFS credits for its renewable natural gas (RNG) projects. We are seeking a candidate with a deep understanding of these programs, who can help innovate and expand the breadth of our expertise, allowing us to maximize our success in creating value by reducing carbon emissions, while also accessing new markets and helping the company understand the changing landscape of carbon offset and greenhouse-gas reduction regulations, first in the United States, and eventually, in other countries.

The Director of Carbon Analysis (DCA) will report to the VP of Engineering and will work cross-functionally across the organization in an advisory role. The DCA will be the gatekeeper for LCFS carbon intensity (CI) scoring for new RNG projects and will be responsible for ensuring that Brightmark’s numerous operating projects are maximizing their value potential. In addition, the DCA will develop roadmaps for accessing new carbon markets and help steer the company as it develops new projects in potentially, other industries and sectors.

The ideal candidate will have specific experience in registering projects with federal and state low carbon and renewable fuels programs, be well-versed at running CI scoring models such as GREET or CA-GREET, and performing life-cycle analyses. This position will interact closely with the engineering team at Brightmark with a heavy emphasis on understanding the underlying technologies, but will also touch development, legal, and finance. For this reason, the successful candidate should have prior experience with renewable energy or other carbon-offset projects, and direct experience with RNG is a plus.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the company’s cross-functional expert in Carbon Analysis
  • Assess projects for their potential to improve their CI score under the California LCFS program
  • Run models for CI scoring of new and existing projects
  • Effectively summarize and report to leadership and other team members on the development of new carbon reduction policies
  • Consult with the company on the development of LCFS applications in food waste, wastewater, landfill gas, and other non-dairy RNG projects, as well as other bio-fuels, renewables, and low carbon fuels
  • Serve as a direct liaison with the governing agencies and industry experts to help navigate the carbon regulations
  • Work with the Director of Environment Markets to assist with farmer, customer, and internal education and relations with respect to greenhouse gas emissions and carbon reduction projects
