Brightmark is hiring a project engineer to help review and execute renewable natural gas (RNG) projects in the agriculture industry. This position will report to the VP of engineering and work closely with project managers and third-party engineers in support of the broader goals of the company to design, build, own and operate numerous commercial scale anaerobic digestion (AD) projects across the country. 

The ideal candidate will have specific experience in supporting AD and RNG design engineering in various regions across the United States. In particular, we are interested in an individual that has recent engineering review and oversight experience on renewable energy and, especially, AD projects. They will be expected to be familiar with market leading equipment, consistent with corporate strategy, including feedstock material handling, de-gritting equipment, digesters (with fluid transfer, gas collection, heating and stirring systems), digestate processing and on-site wastewater treatment systems, and fuel upgrade systems to bring the biogas to pipeline quality. They will work closely with the engineering and operations team in reviewing designs, evaluating proposals, assessing new technologies and process flows, and conducting engineering analyses.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with project managers to complete needed engineering reviews in a timely manner
  • Communicate with engineering contractors and subcontractors as needed to obtain project documentation
  • Review conceptual process flow diagrams, functional design specifications, and equipment submittals to ensure they meet project specs
  • Take responsibility for ensuring that conceptual design and proposal technical documents are provided to meet the schedule and quality standards required
  • Work with outside engineering to translate conceptual designs into detailed design basis memoranda that meet the functional and contractual project requirements
  • Produce procurement packages to enable successful design, construction, commissioning, operation and servicing of AD projects
  • Stay abreast of pricing trends in the AD sector and maintain a data base of major component costs to be used in pricing and screening new project opportunities
  • Stay abreast of AD system issues and solutions commonly experienced when operating and maintaining large AD plants
  • Stay abreast of new technology and product developments to inform the organization about trends and product options
  • Assist VP of Engineering with advanced research and development activities
  • Travel as needed to customer locations and/or tech provider facilities for technical evaluation and assessment

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering (preference for Civil, Environmental, or Bio and Ag Engineering) from an accredited university
  • Ability to read and analyze engineering drawings, i.e. P&IDs, site layouts, GAs, and mechanical drawings
  • Background in renewable energy, biomass energy, and/or anaerobic digestion

Preferred Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Biological and Agricultural Engineering or related discipline from an accredited university, or a minimum of three (3) years of professional experience 
  • Prior experience performing engineering review and/or process engineering on anaerobic digestion or other renewable energy projects
  • AD design and construction experience strongly preferred
