“We have fallen heirs to the most glorious heritage a people ever received, and each one must do his part if we wish to show that the nation is worthy of its good fortune.”
– Theodore Roosevelt

Where do we go from here? In this time of hardship and challenges that most of us have never experienced, how do we create a path forward and our new norm? Many remember Teddy Roosevelt as a president of great strength, but perhaps are not familiar with his legacy as our first nature and environmental president. His words remind me of the bravery, conviction and foresight he had following a trying time in history, to focus on preservation and our key role in stewarding the natural resources entrusted to us. I believe we can do the same, while helping those in need.

While our future “normal” is still unknown, this is an opportunity to reexamine ourselves and our surroundings. By planning both strategically and in a way that is more considered, we can come out of this stronger. At Brightmark, we are not only creating solutions for our environment with recycling and climate solutions, we are creating jobs within the sustainability sector and putting people back to work. We are supporting our local communities and creating positive change for the world.

Teddy so eloquently said, “The joy of living is his who has the heart to demand it.” It’s our time to demand it, work together, and come out better than we were before.
